Wetland Weekender: A history-focused walk around the Otter Estuary

October 25 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

A history-focused walk around the Otter Estuary

As part of the “Wetland Weekender”, this is a history-focused walk around the Otter Estuary with the Otter Valley Association.

We will walk down to Lime Kiln, cross the Elizabeth Bridge, up towards Otterton, crossing at Clamour Bridge then Big Bank back to the start. The focus will be on historical aspects before the River Otter was canalised, from the Romans through Saxon invaders to fishing, salt, mills, ports, the wool trade, smuggling, and wars, and will mention some of the recent history as we go along.
