Weather proofing the Otter Estuary bird hide

IMG_2776 smallA cold but sunny morning provided the perfect conditions to give the Otter Estuary bird hide a facelift through a new coat of weatherproof sealant. Erected in 2006 the bird hide faces over the Otter Estuary SSSI and has now been in existence for almost a decade and is still heavily used and much enjoyed by the public. The footpath that runs past it is used by an estimated 250,000 people annually and is part of the South West Coastal path. In 2014 the hide was given new windows and the new coat of sealant should ensure that the hide withstands a few more winters. The grazing marshes to the west of the embankment have been improved for bird life in recent years through the addition of scrapes.
