River Otter Himalayan Balsam Project

Although still a great problem in the main river valley, significant gains have been made in recent years in clearing this noxious species from a number of tributaries including the Back Brook, the Colaton Brook and the Budleigh Brook. Priorities were set for 2014, and it is hoped that further work will continue to drive back this unwanted species to the main valley. This project is a good example of partnership working between landowners, community groups and environmental agencies, and although eradicating balsam from the River Otter catchment still presents a very significant challenge, the group present were optimistic that their work was contributing towards this goal. More information on Himalayan balsam, including the minutes from this meeting, can be found in the downloads section of this website.
