Announcing a Creative Writing Workshop inspired by the 'Phoenix Cycle'

Bell heather on recovering heathSaturday 18th January 10am to 4pm. The workshop will be facilitated by Diana Gittins, a former Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing for the Open University and published author of both prose and poetry. It has been designed to bring together writers representing local writing groups and individuals, to stimulate new ideas and to share and enjoy the creative writing process. The charge for workshop is £10, payable on the day.

The source of inspiration for this workshop is two-fold: the heathland landscape including the natural wildlife habitat of Woodbury Common, and the 'Phoenix Cycle' - the annual managed and periodic wild-fire burning of areas of the heath, promoting renewal, regeneration, wildlife diversification and conservation. The universal imagery of 'Fire'  as a potent destructive and regenerative force may stimulate other wide-ranging themes for writing.

Dr Bridgewater, Nature Conservation Manager for Clinton Devon Estates will also be taking part in this event and leading a short walk to the edge of the Heath. In addition participants we will have access to a rich resource of photographic material - the work of Mo Bowman a local photographer who has captured the landscape through its seasonal changes over the years.
