29th July Nightjar walk

nightjar smallA brilliant evening spent on Mutter's Moor with great sightings of nightjars feeding on the wing, perching and, of course, with the males churring like crazy. This event was organised by the Conservation Trust as part of Heathweek, and seven members of ther public took the opportunity to meet with Bungy Williams and Pete Gotham, two local experts in heathland ecology and management, and walk the moor at its most bewitching time: dusk. The Pebblebed team then supplied tea, coffee and hot chocolate to the excited visitors before everyone disappeared into the darkness, and the nighjars were left to their feeding. A similar event is organised on East Budleigh Common for tomorrow.
